After looking at the distribution of wealth compared to households by wealth tier last month, we thought it would interesting to look at how these wealth tiers have changed over time. The graphic below displays the total U.S. investable assets (in trillions) by wealth tier over time.

Portfolio Allocation: 2007 vs. 2013
Overall, we’ve seen a shift to more conservative portfolio allocation from 2007 to 2013:
- Deposits: 23% → 26%
- Mutual Funds: 31% → 34%
- Stocks: 32% → 26%
- Bonds: 8% → 6%
- Other: 6% → 8%
